Orioles projected to bolster rotation by adding former White Sox pitcher

On Tuesday, the Baltimore Orioles traded away Grayson Rodriguez to the Los Angeles Angels. In his place, the club received slugger Taylor Ward, an impactful right-handed bat.

The club was searching for more slug to add to its lineup, and they did just that. However, losing Grayson Rodriguez could push them even further to search for a formidable starting pitcher.

So far, the only starters the club has for certain for Opening Day are Tyler Rogers, Kyle Bradish, and Dean Kremer. While they have some young talent waiting, they need someone who has experience at this level.

There are plenty of formidable starters to choose from on the open market, and some are being dangled on the trade market. They have a lot to choose from, but Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter believes they will come to terms with former Chicago White Sox pitcher Lucas Giolito.

"Full seasons from Trevor Rogers and Kyle Bradish will go a long way after they made a combined 24 starts, so one quality veteran arm to slot somewhere in the No. 2/3 range in their rotation might be all they need. Lucas Giolito reestablished himself as that caliber of starter after a strong campaign in Boston."

After sitting out the 2024 season, Giolito returned this past year with the Boston Red Sox and looked good. He made 26 starts, compiling a 10-4 record with a 3.41 ERA across 145 innings of work.

He would not be the frontline starter that would get the fans out of their seats, but he could be someone who doesn't cost the team much, allowing them to secure other free agents. He could bring in value in more ways than one, and that could be enough for the Orioles to open up their checkbook.
