Oregon's Dante Moore opens up on Dillon Gabriel's impact last year

Oregon's young quarterback, Dante Moore, has exceeded all expectations through the first three games of the Ducks' season.

After spending the 2024 season sitting behind Dillon Gabriel, Moore has 657 passing yards, seven touchdowns and just one interception through his first three starts.

While Moore is off to a great start in 2025, his development in 2024 behind Gabriel played a major role in his current success.

Moore Opens Up on Gabriel's Impact

After spending his freshman year at UCLA, Moore transferred to Oregon in 2024 and learned behind Gabriel before he got his chance to lead the Ducks in 2025.

Following Oregon's win against Northwestern on Saturday, Moore opened up on what Gabriel taught him during the 2024 season.

"The biggest thing he taught me was preparation. The way he just prepped Monday through Friday and on Saturday. How he just went out there and got the job done," Moore said (h/t SI.com). "Another thing I learned from him is you have to enjoy this process."

Gabriel came to Oregon with five years of college football experience, and was one of the most accomplished quarterbacks in the country. The former Oregon star finished Top 3 in Heisman voting his senior year, throwing for 3,857 yards and 30 touchdowns.

Gabriel left Oregon with 155 total career passing touchdowns, which was the most in FBS history. The Ducks' star was drafted in the third round of 2025 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns.

A major reason Gabriel has gone as far as he has in his football career is the preparation he puts in each and every day. That preparation, and the joy he brought with it, was something that left a lasting impact on Moore last season.

"He would come to the facility early in the morning and late at night, that you gotta enjoy the process and be thankful for it," Moore said (h/t SI.com). "I feel like seeing him smile every day when the days got tough, it brought me the juice and energy to keep going and make sure I'm pushing my teammates the best they can do."

The Ducks have had two straight phenomenal signal callers in Bo Nix and Dillon Gabriel, and now the torch has been passed to the youngster, Moore.

Although Moore is just 20 years old, the Ducks' sophomore learned a lot from the now-Browns' quarterback last season, and is ready to be the leader Oregon needs, and bring the energy that will fuel the Ducks' season.
