Former Oregon Ducks football star Dillon Gabriel admitted he has a good relationship with fellow rookie Shedeur Sanders, noting that the two are different in playstyle and personality but get along well.
He also spoke of the Cleveland Browns’ quarterback room’s diversity, which includes a range of ages and cultural backgrounds.
Gabriel sounded grateful for learning from veterans Deshaun Watson, Joe Flacco, and Kenny Pickett.
“It’s good. I think there’s a bunch of ways to do it and we’ve just been doing it by being ourselves. So, it’s been a lot of fun that way. We have a fun room and there’s just a bunch of diversity in a lot of ways. And we just use that to our advantage, keep learning, keep growing,” Gabriel said.
“Just day-to-day and how they go about their process of whether studying, taking care of their body, or even just thinking about a certain play. There’s a mix of all that. And as you can tell, there are three guys, Deshaun, Joe and Kenny, who’ve played a bunch of ball at different spots. So they’ve seen a bunch of different football. We can all learn from that.”
Dillon Gabriel takes lead in Cleveland Browns’ QB battle after Kenny Pickett’s injury
It's a good thing Gabriel learned from his well-traveled teammates. He may be getting his first mileage at the pro level sooner rather than later.
It was announced on Sunday that Pickett has a hamstring injury that will keep him out for an undetermined amount of time. With Pickett now out of the picture, Gabriel could be the new presumed QB1.
Gabriel and Flacco become the two likeliest to start now. Barring unfathomable improvement from Sanders, the “Grown QB” will have to take baby steps in Berea.
