Oregon closing in on 5-star recruit right from Ohio State's backyard

Elbert Hill is a high school football superstar at Archbishop Hoban High School in Akron, Ohio.

That's less than two hours from Ohio State in Columbus.

But Hill spent the weekend a long way from home in what has the potential to be a huge recruiting win for one of the Big Ten's newest teams.

Oregon hosted Hill at their spring practice, and he took pictures with head coach Dan Lanning and Ohio-raised safety Trey McNutt.

Hill is ranked as a five-star recruit and the No. 15 player in the country by ESPN.

He has offers from Alabama, Colorado, Miami, Notre Dame, Penn State, Tennessee, USC and more.

The soon-to-be senior is a defensive back who will likely play cornerback at the collegiate level.

McNutt traveled this route already, spurning the home-state Buckeyes for the green and gold Ducks.

If Hill does it too, it's an incredible swindle by Lanning and company. Getting two blue-chip recruits out of the Buckeye State to come all the way to Oregon? That would be big time.
