One superstar didn’t even try to recruit 76ers’ LeBron James to his team

Certain teams around the NBA know that they didn't have much of a chance to land LeBron James. Not everyone thought he'd land with the Philadelphia 76ers, but it checks out in the grand scheme of things. Philadelphia is still a major market and has a lot of appeal to a player of James' caliber.

Not only does he have the chance to play with guys like Jaylen Brown, Tyrese Maxey, and Joel Embiid, but Philadelphia is also a great city. Other cities are great as well, but it didn't always feel like they had a real chance to land a player of his caliber, including the Detroit Pistons.

The Pistons have a young, exciting team that could win a championship if everything breaks their way, led by Cade Cunningham.

However, recently, speaking about the James situation and his free-agency saga, Cunningham admitted he didn't even give him a call.

“I didn’t give LeBron a call,” Cunningham said. “I don’t think he would have cared to hear what I had to say about it. He’s doing what he wants to do at this point. I’m not mad at that. It is what it is, so good for him.”

As Cunningham touched on, there really isn't much that he can do in a situation like this. Obviously, he could call James and hope he responds well to his pitch. Ultimately, however, he probably didn't want to play in Detroit at this stage of his career.
