One social media like just added fuel to Mavericks' Bennedict Mathurin rumors

The Dallas Mavericks have already invested heavily in strengthening their perimeter depth and ball-handling options. However, the team has recently been connected to Los Angeles Clippers wing Bennedict Mathurin.

Several teams have reportedly expressed sign-and-trade interest in Clippers restricted free agent Mathurin. While Los Angeles is still hoping to re-sign the young wing, the franchise has not dismissed the possibility of exploring sign-and-trade scenarios.

Meanwhile, NBA reporter Jake Weinbach shared that, according to Jake Fischer, the Mavericks are a team to keep an eye on as a potential sign-and-trade destination for Mathurin.

“The Clippers would like to retain Mathurin, but the franchise has become open to sign-and-trade proposals surrounding the 24-year-old wing, per @JakeLFischer,” Weinbach wrote.

The situation took an interesting turn when Weinbach later revealed in another X post that Mathurin himself had liked the report.

“Bennedict Mathurin liked this tweet,” he added. 

The Clippers acquired Mathurin from the Indiana Pacers at the February trade deadline in exchange for center Ivica Zubac. Over 54 combined appearances with Indiana and Los Angeles, Mathurin recorded career-best averages of 17.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game.

Following the trade, Mathurin suited up in 26 games for the Clippers. He averaged 17.4 points and 5.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.0 steals per game with the Clippers in 28.0 minutes per game.

At only 24 years old, Mathurin fits well with Dallas' long-term timeline. Bringing him to the Mavericks would help strengthen several areas of the roster, particularly off-ball scoring, athleticism on the wing, and overall bench production.
