One question stands between Drew Allar and a Penn State national title

Penn State is a legitimate national title contender.

The Nittany Lions have a ton of talent back. They added transfer stars, too.

With the season fast approaching, there's one big question left. ESPN's Bill Connelly poses it in his new article this week:

Does Drew Allar have one more gear?

"They have extreme experience at quarterback in a season in which most teams on the ifs list don't," Connelly writes. "Now they just need a little more from him. Allar improved significantly from 2023 to 2024, finishing 17th in QBR. That's good, but the past six title winners have had QBs ranked fourth or higher."

The Mentor, Ohio native is a special talent. Many expect him to be a top-10 NFL Draft pick next year.

He's got his running backs alongside him for familiarity, and PSU added a top-notch transfer wideout in Trebor Pena from Syracuse.

Allar won't be the only key to this title, of course. Can the Nittany Lions replace Tyler Warren? Are the new wide receivers good enough? Can James Franklin win the big one?

But football starts with the quarterback position, and Penn State has one of the best returners in the country. It's up to Allar to lead the way to glory.
