One epic battle showcased Austin Wells’ unique Yankees value

Lost in the hullabaloo over Bronx Bombing and torpedo bats is the Yankees Way at the plate. It is an approach that can serve as psychological and debilitating warfare, which Austin Wells epitomized Tuesday night with his 13-pitch at bat against the Diamondbacks’ $210 million ace Corbin Burnes.

“I’m just trying to get on base any way that I can,” Wells told The Post before the two teams met again Wednesday night. “I think I kind of embraced that a little bit in spring training, kind of leading off in front of Judgy [Aaron Judge], but I feel like I’ve taken it to wherever spot in the lineup I have. That’s kind of a mindset that I want to be able to continue going forward.”

Wells, intent on not chasing and looking for a pitch in the zone, fouled off seven consecutive cutters before walking on a full-count sweeper then eventually scoring in the three-run fourth inning of the Yankees’ 7-5 loss

“I would have loved to have hit one of those that were pretty good pitches to hit, but just fouling ’em off and getting to the next one,” Wells said.
