One day after beating Cowboys, Giants sign former Dallas draft pick to practice squad

The New York Giants are reportedly adding a former Dallas Cowboys draft pick to their practice squad.

According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the Giants are signing running back Phil Mafah to their practice squad.

"Running back Phil Mafah is signing with the Giants practice squad, per source. Mafah was Dallas’ seventh-round pick in 2025," Fowler reported.

Mafah was a seventh-round pick of the Cowboys in 2025.

In his first season with Dallas, Mafah dealt with injury before eventually appearing in one game and totaling five carries for 18 yards and two catches for 11 yards.

That game came in Week 18 against the Giants.

He was part of the competition for the Cowboys' No. 2 running back job during the offseason before failing to make the 53-man roster.

At 6-foot-1 and 232 pounds, Mafah is a bruising running back who does his best work between the tackles.

The Giants did not have a running back on their practice squad before this signing.

New York has Cam Skattebo, Tyrone Tracy, Devin Singletary and Najee Harris on the 53-man roster.

Harris was unexpectedly inactive in Week 1, so one has to wonder if he might be dealing with an injury, especially after this signing. That has not been confirmed, though.
