Ominous record emerges as Mikel Arteta stays cautious on Arsenal's title charge

Arsenal have opened up a four-point title lead at the top of the Premier League after nine games played.

Eberechi Eze scored his first top-flight goal goal since joining the Gunners this summer as the England international sealed a 1-0 win over former side Crystal Palace.

That means Arsenal have now won seven league games so far, with defeat at Liverpool their sole loss across all competitions, as confidence grows over a real title tilt in 2026.

Mikel Arteta's pragmatism remains crucial to Arsenal's tactical set up and the Spanish coach is not getting carried away at this stage.

"It's very early, we're still in October. The emotional state is really high but there are a lot of things to get better. Let's try and recover for Wednesday [vs. Brighton in the Carabao Cup]," he told BBC Sport.

Despite the excitement amongst Arsenal's fans, Arteta's caution could be justified based on historic data, as an eye-catching stat emerged at full-time at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal have now amassed 22 points from nine Premier League games this season (W7 D1 L1), the seventh time they've had 22 or more points at this stage. In the previous six campaigns, the only time they went on to lift the title was in 2003-04 (with 23 points after 9 games).

That serves as a reminder to the Gunners, after three successive Premier League finishes under Arteta as attention now turns to an EFL Cup clash with Brighton & Hove Albion on October 29.
