Figure skating has long been considered a marquee sport at the Winter Olympics. Over the next two weeks, it will get another close-up — this time in Milan.
LIVE: Follow Olympic figure skating results from 2026 team finals
Athletes will trot onto the ice to compete in five different disciplines -- men's singles, women's singles, pairs, ice dance and team event. Each spectacle is expected to be lively, with Americans Ilia Malinin, Madison Chock, Evan Bates and Amber Glenn among the biggest headliners set to compete.
The team event and ice dance finals already proved enchanting, albeit for different reasons. In the team event final, Malinin exorcised his demons from a disappointing Day 1, producing a splendid display to lead the United States to the gold.
Meanwhile, ice dance saw Chock and Bates -- perhaps the most decorated pairing in the discipline -- suffer defeat at the hands of French pairing Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Guillaume Cizeron. Fournier Beaudry and Cizeron took home France's second-straight ice dance gold. Chock and Bates, meanwhile, were forced to settle for silver.

How does Olympic team figure skating work?
Ten countries competing in eight segments will take part in the action. The eight segments are as follows:
- Men's short program
- Men's free skate
- Women's short program
- Women's free skate
- Pairs short program
- Pairs free skate
- Ice dance rhythm dance
- Ice dance free dance
Points are awarded to each country's skater based on their performance in each event. First place picks up 10 points, second place nabs nine points and so on and so forth. Points are added together from all events for each country, creating a final score.
The top-five nations after the short programs and rhythm dance will qualify for the second segment in each discipline. Each team will be ranked by total points scored, with medals awarded to skaters who participated in each event (as opposed to entire figure skating federations).
