Olympic figure skating announcers: Meet NBC's 2026 commentators, from Terry Gannon to Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir

1 hour ago 3

The 2026 Winter Olympic Games are already well underway, and Team USA has already won a gold medal in figure skating. The team took home the gold in the team event.

But there are still several events to come, including men's and women's singles, pair skating and ice dancing. The events are taking place at the Milano Ice Skating Arena in Italy.

The events, as well as the 2026 Winter Olympics as a whole, will be broadcast on NBC. Here's a look at which announcers will be calling figure skating for 2026.

Who are the Olympic figure skating commentators?

The announcing crew for figure skating will include NBC play-by-play commentator Terry Gannon, as well as former Olympic figure skating champions Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir.

Gannon has been with NBC since 2010, first joining the network's Golf Channel. He got added to NBC's Olympics coverage to cover figure skating during the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi. The 2026 Milan Cortina Games marks Gannon's ninth Olympics with NBC, and he recently won a Sports Emmy for his coverage of the 2024 Paris Summer Games.

Gannon started his figure skating coverage alongside both Lipinski and Weir, and the trio has covered four Olympics together.

Tara Lipinski started her figure skating career in the mid-1990s.  In 1994, Lipinski earned a silver medal in the novice women's division at the 1994 U.S. Figure Skating Championships. That same season, she won a gold medal when she was just 12 years old at the 1994 U.S. Olympic Festival, becoming the youngest athlete to win a medal at the event. She won gold at the World Championships in 1997, and won the Grand Prix Finals in 1996-97 and 1997-98. In February 1997, at the age of 14, Lipinski won the U.S. Championships, becoming the youngest skater to do so.

She burst onto the scene in the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano. Lipinski won gold there while competing against longtime rival Michelle Kwan.

Shortly after her Olympic gold win, she turned professional, which ended her Olympic eligibility.  She toured professionally for events like Champions on Ice and Stars on Ice. She retired from skating in 2002, and began her broadcast career in 2010. She started with Universal Sports before joining NBC in 2011.

Johnny Weir's skating career started in the early-2000s. At the age of 12, he took up skating despite primarily focusing on equestrian in his early years. He won the 2001 Junior World Championships at just 17 years old, and won three consecutive U.S. Nationals titles in 2004, 2005 and 2006. He made the 2006 and 2010 U.S. Olympic teams, but failed to medal in either. He won a bronze medal at the 2008 World Championships.

Weir retired from competitive skiing in 2013, and joined NBC's coverage of the 2014 Sochi Olympics.  The following season (2000–2001), Weir competed as a senior for the first time, coming in sixth place at the U.S. Nationals. The 2003–2004 season was "the turning point" for Weir, when he trained with Tatiana Tarasova and won his first national title at age 19.

Weir and Lipinski have developed a strong friendship over the years, and the two are currently starring on NBC's hit show "The Traitors."
