Ole Miss vs. Georgia prediction: Odds, picks, best bet for Saturday’s SEC headliner

8 hours ago 1

No. 5 Ole Miss is quite an interesting team to handicap.

There is clearly a lot to like about Lane Kiffin’s team, but there are logical reasons to be skeptical of what the Rebels have accomplished.

Getting to 6-0 and being ranked inside the top five is a massive accomplishment, but the path has featured some funky results.

Ole Miss crushed Georgia State and Tulane, the latter of which is a standout program in the Group of 5, but they also barely got by Washington State and they needed some breaks against Arkansas and Kentucky too. Throw in a win against LSU, and you’ve got a lot more questions than answers.

Perhaps that’s why the Rebels are getting more than a touchdown against No. 9 Georgia on Saturday.

Ole Miss vs. Georgia odds, prediction

Adding to the intrigue with Ole Miss is the fact that its starting quarterback, Austin Simmons, has been sidelined for four weeks, but his deputy, Trinidad Chambliss, has handled the gig with aplomb.

Simmons is not on the injury report for this trip to Athens, but Chambliss will likely shoulder the load for this crucial SEC clash.

That is probably the right call given Chambliss’ performances, but he’s also going into uncharted territory Saturday.

The only strong defense he played against this season was LSU, but that was at home, and he wasn’t nearly as efficient or explosive in that contest as he was against some of the weaker opponents.

That could be a problem because Georgia’s offense has shown it can hang a big number on you if you’re not on your game.

Georgia’s defense has had a couple of uninspiring results, but it looks the Bulldogs have gotten their act together at the right time.

They held Auburn to just 10 points on the road in a critical game in Week 7, and they should be set up to contain Kiffin’s up-tempo attack.

Betting on College Football?

Don’t be surprised if Ole Miss is a very trendy underdog Saturday — bettors will have a hard time looking away from getting 7.5 points on the No. 5 team — so the Georgia price is worth sitting back on.

That said, I like the Bulldogs to send a message in what will be a massive test for Chambliss, Kiffin and Ole Miss.
