Ole Miss predicted to be robbed by College Football Playoff Selection Committee, Rebels being undervalued due to overrated SEC team

USA Today’s Matt Hayes believes Ole Miss will suffer when the College Football Playoff Selection Committee picks the final field – and it may be because the Rebels have one more loss than Texas through Week 12.

Hayes condemned the College Football Playoff being decided not on the football field, but in back offices by businessmen.

“If the committee can’t see something as simple as Texas’ best win is against Colorado State of the Group of Five or at Vanderbilt, and that Ole Miss has beaten Georgia and South Carolina, what else will the committee ignore for the sake of one less loss? The hard work and heavy lifting happens on the field. Not the secluded and secretive selection committee room,” Hayes wrote.

“It’s no different than the confounding Bowl Championship Series rankings, where computer polls – each with its own weighted and secret formula – helped decide who played for the national title. Think about this: we’ve taken the most important process of the college football season, and put it in the hands of athletic directors and random businessmen and women on the committee.”

Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin acknowledges what Ole Miss must do to make the College Football Playoff

Lane Kiffin isn’t focusing on the potential injustices the College Football Playoff Selection Committee may commit in a few weeks. Instead, Kiffin is focusing on his Rebs having a repeat performance of their 28-10 win over Georgia on November 9 every week.

“We have a lot of work to do,” Kiffin said (h/t On3). “We put ourselves in position now, not just beating Georgia, but beating them like that, to be in the playoffs. Not worry about the rankings, it will work itself out. We got two more games to play and we’ve got to go win those two games to put us in that position.

“I told them three weeks ago after the LSU game when we screwed up at the end — you go down there and don’t win, you’re going to have to win every game. It’s been four games so we had to win every week. The playoffs to me, you’re going to have to go through Georgia and it’s a different system now.”

Kiffin has a massive game in Gainesville against Florida in Week 13 before the Egg Bowl in Week 14. If the Gators can upset the Rebels, the rumors of Kiffin going to UF will fire back up. Ditto if Kiffin loses a second straight Egg Bowl from Oxford.

Win out and he likely has either an SEC Championship Game berth or a College Football Playoff spot.

That spot may just be below what they deserve, because of a team like Texas.
