Jon Sumrall has donated $100,000 to Tulane's NIL fund. The new Florida Gators head coach said his decision occurred before he chose to go to Florida, and he decided to maintain his commitment to the donation.

College football fans heard the news and took to X (formerly Twitter) to react.

A fan said, "Ole Miss missed out by not hiring Jon Sumrall."

Another added, "@Lane_Kiffin take note." One wrote, "You are one of a kind coach. God bless you for being a great example to your players and other coaches. Thank you for what you have done for Tulane. Here’s to much success and happiness."

Some comments leaned toward the pessimistic.

One said, "he's messy." Another wrote, "Why not just stay then?"

One chimed in, saying, "Guy took the Florida job to get paid from the buyout in 4 years."

Jon Sumrall spent two successful seasons with the Tulane Green Wave. The promising head coach compiled a 20-7 record and earned attention from notable high-caliber programs.

Sumrall eventually chose to take his talents to Florida, signing a six-year deal with the Gators. However, his old team has been thoroughly supportive of the move. They've posted a thank-you message on their social media platforms and allowed Sumrall to coach in the postseason.

Sumrall's reputation with the Tulane faithful has only increased following his generous donation to the school's NIL fund. He'll now conclude his tenure by leading them out for the College Football Playoffs.

Jon Sumrall's Florida Gators are dealing with major exits

Jon Sumrall's tenure with the Florida Gators is off to a rocky start. The Gators are going through an exodus of sorts following the conclusion of the regular season.

Star quarterback DJ Lagway was the biggest Florida player to announce his intention to enter the transfer portal. Lagway leaves Florida with a 10-9 record as a starter and with two years of collegiate football eligibility intact.

Redshirt sophomore wide receiver Aidan Mizell is also entering the transfer portal. Mizell spent three years at Florida compiling a stat line of 36 receptions, 379 yards and 3 touchdowns in 21 games.

Other notable Gators set to depart are safety Jordan Castell, running back KD Daniels, and tight end Amir Jackson. Jon Sumrall will be tasked with replacing these talents and getting the Gators back in College Football Playoffs contention.
