Ole Miss' Lane Kiffin adds speculation about future with cryptic comments

2 hours ago 1

Lane Kiffin has once again fueled speculation about his future at Ole Miss, just days before the No. 8 Rebels face Florida. While he’s rumored to be the Gators' top target, there's no real backing behind it all.

When asked this week what makes a good head coaching job in modern college football, Kiffin focused on the factor of having NIL support.

“People used to say facilities, practice field, those things,” Kiffin said. “That’s changed. It’s going to be, ‘How much NIL do you have? How is your collective? How much do you have?’"

Lane Kiffin asked how he would define what makes a head coaching job good 👀

"I wasn't ready for that one." 😂

His comments drew attention because Florida, who's currently seeking a replacement for Billy Napier, checks nearly every box Kiffin mentioned. They have national championships, past Heisman winners, a massive stadium, and prime recruiting geography to swoon any top player.

But at the same time, would Kiffin give up what he had built at Ole Miss and the complete backing from Rebels administration for all Gainesville has to offer? It seems silly to entertain considering Kiffin's family is rooted in Oxford. Also, is Florida still a top job in the current landscape?

Kiffin also had an interesting series o of questions recently. "What is your standard? Is the standard the standard regardless of who the team is, what network is on, how many people show up in the crowd? Do you need that stuff to play really well? Or are you an elite competitor that none of that matters?"

For now, Kiffin’s focus remains on Saturday’s matchup in Gainesville, where an Ole Miss win would keep his team alive in the College Football Playoff race. But his comments suggest he’s fully aware of the sport’s shifting power dynamics. Either way, his next move will reshape the SEC once again.
