As an elder millennial, I feel like I landed right in the middle of two worlds. I grew up learning a bunch of pre-internet skills, the kind you just had to know because there wasn’t an app for it, but I was also young enough to pick up computers as they took over everything.
It’s a weird place to be, because you start to realize how many of those older skills are quietly fading away. Not because they’re useless, but because they’ve been replaced or just don’t get passed down the same way anymore.
This thread is full of those dying niche skills, and it’s equal parts fascinating and a little bittersweet.
