The 2024/25 season for the Oklahoma City Thunder has not been favorable towards their frontcourt. Isaiah Hartenstein and Jaylin Williams have yet to play a single minute this season and Chet Holmgren suffered an incredibly rare hip injury just ten games into the season.
With the past couple of games consisting of Jalen Williams at center and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander as the tallest player in the Thunder lineup at 6'6", OKC finally made a move to add some much needed height to the roster.
Thunder sign Branden Carlson
Earlier today, the Thunder announced they signed seven-footer Branden Carlson from the Toronto Raptors' G League team, the Raptors 905. During his time with the 905 this season, Carlson has averaged 14.3 points, 8.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game.
This is a major addition for the Thunder. Since the Holmgren injury, OKC has lost the rebound battle 155-113 over the past three games. Being able to have Carlson maintain the paint will relieve many Thunder players of difficult defensive burdens and will allow them to go back to their original play styles.
As of right now, Hartenstein and JWill are not expected to return until around Dec. 3, so Carlson should be able to get significant minutes defending the paint and grabbing rebounds.
