Oilers' goalie gaffe regains spotlight after brutal Sabres mistake

Anyone paying attention to the NHL playoffs on Tuesday night likely saw it -- the brutal mistake by Buffalo Sabres goalie Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen.

A flipped-in puck by Morgan Geekie turned into an odd bounce and a goal that never should've made it past UPL.

It gave off the feeling of being one of the worst goals ever allowed in a hockey postseason game.

It has competition, though, as social media posters quickly pointed out.

The one that got a lot of attention was a goal once allowed by Edmonton Oilers goalie Mike Smith.

Taking on the Calgary Flames, Smith allowed a goal in from the other defensive zone:

Yep, that one is quite painful, too.

The only thing Smith could point to is the fact that the puck came in with some unexpected velocity and accuracy from a long way away.

It's quite different from the Luukkonen mistake, which had entirely to do with odd spin on the puck and not playing it in quite the right way.

Smith seemed to just totally flub his chance there.

Both are painful memories that the goalies would much prefer never happened, that's for sure.
