Oilers at risk of losing Jack Roslovic

The Edmonton Oilers have a lot of big names to worry about in their own building this offseason.

Connor McDavid's future looms large. Darnell Nurse has requested a trade. They're still finalizing their head coaching position.

But beyond that, one guy to keep an eye on is Jack Roslovic.

Roslovic joined the Oilers before the 2025-26 season and was solid enough for Edmonton to want him back for another year.

Will that happen? It's not as likely as the Oilers might hope.

The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun wrote on Thursday that it seems Roslovic may test the open market rather than just settling for a deal to stay in Edmonton.

"Roslovic is ... 29 and can also play center," LeBrun writes. "He’s bounced around playing for four teams in the past three seasons. He ended up with the Edmonton Oilers in an Oct. 8 signing after spurning a better offer from the Oilers back on July 1 last year. The Oilers really like Roslovic, but at the moment, he’s also likely headed to market."

The interesting thing about a situation like this is that the Oilers won't be out of the race just if Roslovic doesn't sign a contract by July 1.

The fact that they can negotiate with him early on means that he'll know exactly what is on the table in Edmonton.

There's always a chance Roslovic hears from other teams with offers that don't actually do better than what the Oilers can do. A return could still be in the cards.

But for now, Edmonton is facing the potential of losing Roslovic after just one season, which could in turn force them to pursue a replacement out of the free agent pool.
