Ohtani's NL MVP three-peat prediction puts him in historic company

The Los Angeles Dodgers, as well as the rest of Major League Baseball are about to start the 2026 season. This is a rare opportunity to secure a third-straight World Series championship, which has not been done since the New York Yankees did it from 1998 through 2000.

That is not the only rare sighting we might see at the end of the 2026 season, as the Dodgers most valuable player might be joining historic company. Shohei Ohtani, who has already won two MVP's for the American League, has taken home the NL MVP over the last two seasons. Just about every major publication, including the Sporting News, has predicted him to becoming the second three-peat winner in MLB history.

Ohtani adds another milestone to his Hall of Fame resume

Should Ohtani have another stellar season in 2026, helping the Dodgers to another historic season with a World Series championship to boot, there is not much else to say on his legacy. Only San Francisco Giants legend Barry Bonds has ever won the Most Valuable Player award for three-straight years, when he took it a season beyond with four-straight from 2001 through 2004.

To coincide with the potential of an MVP trophy, there is a solid chance that he can put himself into the Cy Young conversation as well. No. 17 returns to the mound, full-time, for the first time in three seasons following Tommy John surgery, and from what was seen in Spring Training, he has not missed a beat. Of course, that is if he can contribute a comparable amount of starts and innings with the rest of the potential nominees.

Buckle up, folks, the Dodgers are going to be must-see TV this season. Ohtani is going to be the center of it all.
