Ohio State’s new tight end could be key to national title repeat

Ohio State's hope of a repeat national championship rest upon the backs of many standout players.

One guy who might be flying under the radar is a new face from another Big Ten school.

Purdue transfer Max Klare, who grew up in Cincinnati, is one of the newest Buckeyes.

He announced Dec. 23 that he'd be coming to Ohio State, and he has stood out in spring practices so far.

"You want to be in an environment that's going to push you in all aspects of the game," Klare told reporters this week.

Klare had 51 catches for 685 yards and four TDs last season for the Boilermakers, who went just 1-11.

It's safe to say he'll do much more winning this year.

"There's so much talent here, it's unbelievable," Klare said.

Klare will be tasked with replacing departed starter Gee Scott. If he can supplement Jeremiah Smith and the other star wide receivers, it'll be a big boost to Ryan Day's offense.
