The Elder Scrolls fans know that Bethesda is hard at work on the next highly anticipated roleplaying game entry, The Elder Scrolls 6, but that's about it. The lack of concrete information is wild when you consider that the sequel to The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim was announced a whopping eight years ago. Fans' patience may finally be about to pay off.
To be fair to Bethesda, the studio does occasionally acknowledge The Elder Scrolls 6 publicly. In 2025, for example, the developer revealed that the secretive open-world game was already fully playable. The next year, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma implied that TES 6 was a fun time. Bethesda has also said that, despite teases of a new Fallout game, the studio was still primarily focused on Skyrim's sequel.
Despite this ongoing radio silence, The Verge reports that Bethesda's marketing is about to turn up a notch. A new dispatch from the tech site claims that Bethesda will officially announce the game's apparent title — The Elder Scrolls 6: Sentinel — sometime around the fifteen-year anniversary (!) for Skyrim. For those who just turned to dust, Skyrim released on Nov. 11, 2011, so that's coming up.
The report further states that the new Elder Scrolls game will take place in Hammerfell, and that it will cover the history of the Elder Scrolls themselves. Much like in Starfield, players will be uncovering the secrets of mysterious ancient artifacts.
The name may not be a surprise to some following the discovery of an Easter egg allegedly hidden in an early Starfield trailer. That, alongside a social media tease by Xbox CEO Asha Sharma, led players to believe TES 6's subtitle would be Sentinel. The new report lends further credence to the theory.
If true, then that means that Elder Scrolls fans will soon stop having to subsist on crumbs. The name reveal will hopefully come with new media, like screenshots or perhaps a real trailer. The existing announcement trailer, after all, is less than a minute long and is mostly vibes. Even though TES 6 is rumored to still be years away from completion, an official gameplay reveal would be a huge deal.
Still, it's kind of funny to know we've waited this long just to learn the game's actual name!
