Off-duty DHS agent fatally shoots armed neighbor in New Year’s Eve dispute

A quiet Los Angeles neighborhood was disrupted by deadly gunfire when an off-duty federal agent shot and killed a neighbor who was allegedly armed with a rifle on New Year’s Eve.

Officers responded to reports of gunfire on the 17150 block of Roscoe Boulevard around 10:30 p.m.

The victim — described as a Black male in his 30s — was armed with what was believed to be a rifle, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The victim allegedly fired his gun into the air at some point, according to CBS LA, though LAPD would not confirm that information with The Post.

At some point, a neighbor confronted the gunman. That neighbor was an off-duty agent with the Department of Homeland Security, authorities said.

Investigators said it remains unclear whether the suspect pointed or fired his weapon at the off-duty agent. No arrests had been made as of Thursday morning, and additional details were not immediately available.
