Odell Beckham Jr. reunion could be back on table after Giants’ rash of receiver injuries

Heading into this past week, the likelihood of the Giants and Odell Beckham Jr. coming together for a reunion was squarely in “nah, but never say never” mode. As in: Not totally impossible, but don’t hold your breath.

Slow-playing this scenario was the smart way to go. Yes, the Giants had Beckham in for a visit and a workout on April 20. But that did not lead to a signing, and that was telling. If the Giants were truly interested in the 33-year-old wide receiver, it made sense to get him under contract and get him on the field for the organized team activity practices that are ongoing.

Despite head coach John Harbaugh’s glowing words about his relationship with Beckham from their one season together with the Ravens in 2023, it is fair to say Beckham was not really on the Giants’ radar. They had enough players at the position, and there was no apparent pathway for Beckham to make the roster.

Things change. Within the rough-and-tumble NFL environs, those changes are often prompted by injuries. Friday, Gunner Olszewski went down with a torn right Achilles tendon, ending his season. In addition to his role as a kick and punt returner, Olszewski was taking a full share of reps as a receiver.
