The New York Knicks were throwing a party for the entire city on Thursday as they celebrated their first championship in 53 years with a parade.
Not much could ruin the vibes, but one bit of mistaken identity didn't help the cause.
Jalen Brunson is the Knicks' superstar guard, of course. But one New York City politician called him "Jaylen Brown."
Brown is a real person, to point out the rather obvious -- he's a star for the Boston Celtics.
But obviously, they aren't the same. And Brunson is probably the one name New Yorkers should know right now more than any other.
The mis-speak came from Jumaane Williams, who is the Public Advocate of the City of New York.
It didn't go unnoticed, as a bunch of Knicks fans took to X to share their thoughts about it. Most of them weren't exactly safe for work posts.
This about sums it up:
Did this dude just call Brunson Jaylen brown
— evan (@JudgeEnjoyer999) June 18, 2026It's really just about the most brutal mistake that someone could've made at the Knicks' championship parade.
Brunson is everything to the Knicks, having made a case as the greatest player in franchise history.
Even a Celtics fan wouldn't accidentally call one Jalen the name of another Jaylen.
This one is going to be tough to live down for Williams, particularly when he's around intense Knicks fans.
Surely it was just a simple mistake, a slip of the tongue. It was just about the worst one he could've made, though.
