They’re tag-teaming the transition.
Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani’s transition team met with their counterparts in outgoing Hizzoner Eric Adams’ administration Wednesday — as their bosses respectively trade barbs.
Adams revealed the crucial powwow during an unrelated Thursday event in Manhattan, promising a smooth transfer of power to his socialist successor even as he leaves him with some big decisions and sets up obstacles to his agenda.
“Bill de Blasio handed me the baton of dealing with these issues, and I’m going to hand the baton over to Zohran,” the mayor said.
“Our transition team met with his team yesterday, and, you know, we’re turning over a wealth of information so they can make the decisions.”

Stephen Yang for the NY PostBut the business-as-usual tone Adams struck not only contrasted with his dire warnings about Mamdani before Election Day, but also his out-the-door attempts to stymie the incoming mayor.
Adams in recent weeks has moved to pack a crucial board in a bid to forestall a rent freeze, pushed to increase the NYPD’s headcount and declared the celeb-beloved Elizabeth Street garden a park — all of which are at odds with Mamdani’s stances.
A frustrated Mamdani admitted Thursday that Adams’ move on Elizabeth Street likely will tie his hands, contending it will make it “nearly impossible” to build affordable housing at the Nolita haven.
“It is no surprise that Mayor Adams is using his final week months to cement a legacy of dysfunction and inconsistency,” he said.
Within breaths of dissing Adams, Mamdani did take time to praise the mayor’s team as “collaborative” during the transition.
The two transition teams met at City Hall, with Adams’ chief staff and handover boss Camille Joseph-Varlack taking part, sources said.
And there are signs the collaborative spirit between the two sides runs deeper than the testy relationship between Adams and Mamdani.
Sources said multiple members of Adams’ communications team have explicitly reached out for a new gig with Mamdani.
“I’m going to hand the baton over to Zohran,” Adams said Thursday. James Keivom“We had a very productive meeting and we look forward to continuing to work closely with the Mayor’s team on a smooth transition,” said Dora Pekec, a spokeswoman for Mamdani’s transition team.
