Nuggets officially outbid Cavs, Heat for $305M Future Hall of Famer, 6x All-Star to pair with Jokic

The Denver Nuggets have not had the most enjoyable offseason, as they have had to put their roster together piece by piece after entering historic territory with their salary cap situation. That ultimately forced them to move on from Peyton Watson in a sign-and-trade deal.

The Nuggets did not want to get rid of Watson, which is why they held off as long as possible. However, they were able to find a strong replacement by signing six-time All-Star DeMar DeRozan to a veteran minimum contract.

“The Nuggets signed DeMar DeRozan to a one-year deal at the veteran's minimum, per Shams Charania. DeRozan will now fill the void left behind by Peyton Watson in Denver's wing rotation," NBA reporter Evan Sidery posted.

DeRozan joined Denver because of the opportunity to start games, which became available after Watson was moved. The Nuggets ultimately landed the six-time All-Star over teams such as the Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat.

“As ESPN's Shams Charania reported recently, DeRozan has generated interest from the Heat, Nuggets, Cavaliers and Washington Wizards, serving as a high-profile name, proven scorer and durable option for several teams in need of offensive punch at a team-friendly price," ESPN wrote.

The deal was agreed upon a few weeks ago, as the two sides came together on a short-term contract that would satisfy their needs for the upcoming season. However, the deal only became official on Tuesday night.

“DeMar DeRozan has officially signed his deal with the Denver Nuggets,” Spotrac’s Keith Smith posted.

The DeRozan era in Denver is officially underway after the future Hall of Famer put pen to paper. Despite their limited ability to make moves, the Nuggets were able to add a proven scorer who believes the organization is capable of competing at a high level.

DeRozan has made $305 million throughout his career. He will provide another scoring option for a team loaded with players who can put the ball in the basket. Look for DeRozan to be a heavily utilized member of the Nuggets this season.
