Nuggets may be without Aaron Gordon for Game 7 in major injury concern

The Nuggets might be without one of their star players for Game 7 against the Thunder in Oklahoma City. 

Aaron Gordon’s status for Sunday’s contest is in question after he appeared to tweak his hamstring late in the fourth quarter of Denver’s 119-107 win on Thursday night.

With less than two minutes to go in the game, Gordon intercepted a pass from Alex Caruso with his foot after he was stripped by Chet Holmgren, and immediately reached for the back of his leg. 

Gordon stayed in the game for a few more possessions but exited the game with 1:10 left in the fourth quarter, returning to the lineup for one brief offensive possession after that.

After the game, Nuggets interim head coach David Adelman was asked about the concern level for Gordon heading into the series-deciding game. 

“At this point, I have no idea. It would be high, obviously,” Adelman said. “Aaron is one of our guys … He’s a reason we’ve won games and won series and have a banner hanging up in there.” 

The Athletic reported that Gordon “was in good spirits” and “didn’t have a wrap, or any ice on his left leg” in the locker room postgame. 

Adelman said the longer stretch between Games 6 and 7 could help the Nuggets and Gordon catch a break.

“It’s really nice to have two days for all the guys to have treatment and all of those things. I haven’t gotten a clear answer. He’ll get checked out,” Adelman said. “But I mean this, having two days off — wow, this has been a marathon. The guys in there look happier that they have [Friday] off than that they’re going to a Game 7. It’s going to be really nice. It’s nice to have two days to get guys right going into a Sunday matinee. Concern for Aaron is so high. He’s played through a lot through this whole season, so we’ll see where he’s at.”

Gordon has been excellent for the Nuggets during this second-round series, averaging 14.5 points and 9.2 rebounds while shooting 44.1 percent overall and 45.2 percent from deep.
