Two teams ranked in the the latest edition of The Sporting News Boys Basketball Top 25 will meet Saturday night in the championship game of Florida's Montverde Academy Invitational Tournament.
That includes the No. 14 hosts who will defend their own home court against the No. 25 Oak Cliff Faith Family Academy Eagles from Dallas, Texas. The two squads were the favorites in their respective brackets headed into the tournament, and the visitors from the Lone Star State mopped the floor with DME Academy of Florida on Friday in a 91-60 rout to advance to the championship game.
Later in the evening, Montverde Academy was lucky to make it to the title tilt after surviving The Rock National in a 70-69 decision. The Rock had already pulled an upset Thursday over Riviera Prep, and they were one made basket away from knocking the Eagles out of contention for the championship in their own invitational tournament.
Instead, The Rock National will face DME Academy in the third-place game while the consolation bracket will feature Bethel Academy of Virginia against Riviera Prep in the fifth-place game. Dr. Phillips and Northside Christian will play for seventh place.
Top-ranked Class of 2026 senior prospects competing at the event include Oak Cliff's twin power forwards Gavin and Gallagher Placide, both of whom signed with Wake Forest, and Montverde Academy's Joe Philon who remains unsigned. The hosts feature SF Jayden Hodge (Northwestern) while The Rock National will send SG Joseph Hartman (Michigan) into the fray.
