NJ transit ‘trespasser’ fatally struck by train sparking morning commute nightmare

A “trespasser” was struck and killed by an NJ Transit train near Newark Airport, sparking major delays for commuters crossing the Hudson Wednesday morning.

Trains going in and out of New York Penn Station were subject to up to hour-long waits after the incident, which was first reported by the agency around 8:15 a.m.

NJ Transit tickets are being cross-honored system-wide and by PATH at Hoboken, Newark Penn Station and 33rdSt-NY.

Additional information about the victim was not immediately clear.

The fatality comes hours after a man stabbed three people aboard an NJ Transit Light Rail train between the Norfolk and Orange Street stations in Newark around 12:30 a.m., according to PIX11.

The victims and the suspect were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
