The 2025-26 NBA season didn't go especially well for the Denver Nuggets.
The team battled injury issues throughout the course of the campaign, and ultimately lost in the first round of the playoffs to an extremely shorthanded Minnesota Timberwolves team that was missing its best player for much of the series.
Nikola Jokic says he still wants to be a Nugget forever
Despite the way the season played out though, star center Nikola Jokic's commitment to the team hasn't wavered.
After Denver was eliminated by Minnesota, Jokic made it clear that he still wants to complete his career in a Nuggets uniform.
"I still want to be a Nugget forever," Jokic said, bluntly.

— Anthony Slater (@anthonyVslater) May 1, 2026Jokic still has two years remaining on his current contract with Denver, including a $62 million player option for the 2027-28 season. However, he'll be eligible for an enormous four-year, $293 million extension this summer.
Given his commitment to the team, it seems likely that Jokic will put pen to paper on an extension with the Nuggets.
However, he'll probably want to see some improvements to the roster, because at this point he doesn't think they're particularly close to title contention.
"We just lost in the first round. So, I think we are far away [from, title contention]," Jokic said after the series loss to Minnesota.
At 31 years old, Jokic isn't getting any younger and the window for the Nuggets to build a title team around him gets slightly smaller every year. So, Denver's front office will need to operate with some urgency over the offseason in order to ensure Jokic signs an extension and has a competitive team around him moving forward.
