Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni is only a few seasons removed from leading this team to a Super Bowl championship, but attention spans are short in the NFL, and memories are even shorter. Now, after the Eagles' latest disappointing loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, Sirianni is being labeled a "hot seat" candidate.
The Eagles are going up against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday with a losing record of 2-3. The Panthers are 2-2. This is a must-win game for Sirianni and the Eagles, or else more people are really going to start wondering what's wrong with this franchise.
Nick Sirianni lands on NFL analyst's hot seat list
In a feature published on Thursday, Bill Barnwell of ESPN names 15 coaches and players on the "hot seat" heading into Week 6 games. For the Eagles, he puts the head coach on that list.
"While Sirianni has racked up a gaudy win-loss record during his time in Philadelphia, the Eagles are 5-7 over their past 12 games, including a three-game losing streak," he notes in the piece.
The team's upcoming games are against the Panthers, Cowboys and Giants, all matchups in which the Eagles should be favored to win. Barnwell thinks that if the Eagles win, "even in ugly fashion, fans will tolerate the struggles."
"But if the losing streak continues, well, the sudden end to Doug Pederson's tenure with the team in 2020 should tell you just how quickly an otherwise successful run can come to a sudden close in Philadelphia," he adds.
It's too early to say that this team is ready to part ways with Sirianni. However, it's not too early for NFL analysts to start talking about it.
