NFL trade proposal has Rams land 3.5-sack defender from Titans

The Los Angeles Rams suffered their second loss of the season in Week 5 as they fell to the San Francisco 49ers in overtime.

Now sitting at 3-2, the Rams are behind the 49ers in the NFC West race, but it's far from panic time. Veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford has still been playing well, and the team's defense is 10th in yards per game allowed.

However, it's fair to say the team could use another difference-maker along the defensive line. Josh Weil of Pro Football & Sports Network recently identified star defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons as a possible trade target for the team.

In Weil's proposal, the deal would look like this:

  • Rams receive: DT Jeffery Simmons
  • Titans receive: 2026 first-round pick, 2027 second-round pick, and a 2026 fifth-round pick

"After the Rams’ loss to the 49ers, the Rams shouldn’t feel like they are out of contention by any means. They dominate when someone is wreaking havoc in the middle, and Jeffery Simmons could make this team a Super Bowl contender again. He is that good," Weil explained.

"Using our PFSN DTi rankings, Simmons is the second-best defensive tackle in the NFL, with an 89.1 impact score, suitable for a B+ grade. His ability to do this with the amount of attention he gets bodes well for if anybody is to trade for him, and in this case, the Rams get their second coming of the great Aaron Donald," Weil continued.

As Weil mentioned, Simmons is indeed very good. The defender currently has an 82.5 Pro Football Focus grade, which ranks 9th out of 186 qualified defensive linemen. Simmons has racked up 22 tackles, 3.5 sacks, six tackles for loss so far in five games in 2025.

In his seven-year career, Simmons has 196 tackles, 55 tackles for loss, and 35 sacks. The Mississippi State product has earned three Pro Bowl selections so far and has solidified himself as one of the top interior defenders in the league, and any team would love a player like Simmons.

The Titans may not be able to turn away a package like this, though. The Titans did just get their first win in Week 5, but at 1-4, it seems unlikely that the team has any postseason aspirations. Simmons is under contract through 2028, but with so many holes around the roster, the Titans may prefer to have extra picks.

In Los Angeles, Simmons could take over the defensive end spot currently occupied by Braden Fiske. There's no denying that a defensive line trio of Simmons, Poona Ford, and Kobie Turner would be fearsome.
