The Denver Broncos improved to 6-5 on the season following a dominant win over the Atlanta Falcons. They currently hold the last spot in the AFC playoffs. The Broncos began the 2024 season near the bottom in almost any power rankings list you looked at, but the team has made huge progress.
In the most recent power rankings put together by Vinnie Iyer of The Sporting News, the Broncos have moved up two slots from last week and sit at No. 13. Here is what he said about the team:
"The Broncos got Bo Nix hot at home in a much better matchup vs. Atlanta compared to facing the Ravens or Chiefs on the road. Denver put together a strong rushing game with some defense to boot. Sean Payton's team won't give up the last AFC wild-card spot easily."
The Broncos will have a great chance to solidify themselves as a playoff team in the next three weeks as they play winnable games against the Las Vegas Raiders, Cleveland Browns and Indianapolis Colts.
Broncos come in at No. 13 in power rankings
The only teams in the AFC ranked higher than the Broncos are the current playoff teams seeded 1-6, which is appropriate. But the Broncos are beginning to make some noise and they bounced back well after a crushing loss to the Kansas City Chiefs last week.
The Broncos won't be looked at as a true contender for the remainder of this season and the question each week will become whether or not they can hold onto that final playoff spot. It will be difficult for the Broncos to get out of the No. 7 spot in the playoffs considering the level of play of the teams ahead of them.
Still, for the Broncos to be ranked this high in the power rankings at any point this season would have been seen as a success.
