NFL players are renewing their turf war after seeing pristine grass fields at the World Cup.
MetLife Stadium, the shared home of the Giants and Jets, is one of seven NFL venues beginning the process of returning to its customary synthetic playing surface after temporarily switching to natural grass to comply with FIFA’s requirements for hosting soccer games. It has caused an uproar and created the social-media hashtag #WorthTheCost from players who view team owners as choosing profits over safety.
“It’s a slap in the face to see these soccer teams get what we’ve been fighting for,” one NFL player told The Post.
A recent NFL Players Association survey returned 92 percent of 1,700 ballots voicing a preference for natural grass over artificial turf.
