NFL insider urges 49ers to sign five-time Pro Bowl wide receiver

The San Francisco 49ers need wide receiver help, as most of their receiving corps is not going to be ready for the start of the season.

San Francisco traded away Deebo Samuel this offseason to the Washington Commanders, leaving holes in its offense. The rest of the 49ers' receiving corps is not doing well, as Brandon Aiyuk and Ricky Pearsall were both placed on the PUP list and will be out the first four weeks of the season, and Jauan Jennings requested a trade.

Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox believes that the 49ers should sign five-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Amari Cooper to help upgrade their offense.

"Last season, he caught just 44 passes for 547 yards and four touchdowns while splitting the season between the Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills," Knox wrote. "Of course, it's worth noting that the 31-year-old wasn't in a particularly enviable situation with either team. Two years ago, Cooper caught 72 passes for 1,250 yards and five touchdowns en route to his fifth Pro Bowl selection."

"He might not be able to replicate that success, but he should be able to provide more than he did in 2024. The San Francisco 49ers would also be wise to kick the tires on Cooper. San Francisco traded Deebo Samuel early in the offseason and may not have Brandon Aiyuk early in the year as he recovers from a torn ACL."

Before 2024, Cooper had amassed 1,000 receiving yards or more in five of the six previous seasons. As Knox noted, the 31-year-old receiver was not in a particularly great situation with either team last season. The 49ers could be a great spot for Cooper to return to form, and he could be another weapon for Brock Purdy.
