NFL insider reports 49ers could target WR help amid plethora of injuries

2 hours ago 1

The San Francisco 49ers are dealing with a litany of injuries throughout their roster. Two of the most dire are the season-ending injuries to Nick Bosa and Fred Warner. The defensive leaders for the 49ers are out, leading to plenty of linebackers and pass rushers being linked to the 49ers ahead of the trade deadline.

But the defensive side of the ball isn't the only area dealing with some injuries. On offense, Brock Purdy is banged up, and while George Kittle is close to a return, he's still missed a lot of time this season.

The wide receiver room is the most decimated on the 49ers roster, with injuries to Bradon Aiyuk, Ricky Pearsall, and Jauan Jennings. While they all aren't done for the year, Dan Graziano of ESPN believes these injuries could have the 49ers prepared to acquire a wide receiver by the trade deadline.

"It also doesn't have to be defense for the 49ers. They've been extremely banged up in their wide receiver corps this season." Graziano writes. "... but I wouldn't be shocked if the help the 49ers bring in from the outside comes on the offensive side of the ball."

Aiyuk is still a ways away from returning from his knee injury, as Kyle Shanahan has mentioned roughly Week 10 as a time for Aiyuk to be close to a return.

Jennings revealed that, beyond the ankle sprain he's dealing with, he's been playing through five broken ribs. Pearsall has missed a few weeks with a knee injury and is still questionable.

Kendrick Bourne has been a great fill-in with the injuries to the wide receiver room. But, if the 49ers deem their room to be too hurt, or one of these receivers suffers a setback or further injury, then a trade could make a lot of sense for San Francisco.

A wide receiver addition doesn't have to be a superstar player. Jakobi Meyers of the Las Vegas Raiders could be an intriguing addition, as could Allen Lazard or Dontayvion Wicks, among other receivers who could be available at the deadline.

While adding defensive replacements for Bosa and Warner are high on the list of priorities for the 49ers at the deadline, this mention from Graziano is worth monitoring. The 49ers could bring in offensive help, especially if these injuries don't get any better in the coming weeks.
