Week 2 of the NFL preseason is generally the time for coaches and fans to get their longest looks at players expected to play key roles in the upcoming season.
With many established starters sitting out the first and last exhibition games, this week's games should provide the most representative look at where teams stand as the regular season approaches.
Two games start off the Week 2 slate Thursday. Up first, No. 1 overall draft pick Fernando Mendoza gets a national showcase as the Raiders travel to face the Texans. The Heisman Trophy winner from Indiana had a solid first outing last week against the Cardinals, completing 10 of 16 passes for 97 yards and a touchdown.
The later contest will see Justin Herbert make his 2026 preseason debut as the Chargers host the 49ers, and coach Kyle Shanahan said there's a "good chance" Brock Purdy will do the same for San Francisco.

Where to watch NFL preseason Week 2
Week 2 is bookended by a pair of national television broadcasts, with Texans-Raiders on ESPN Thursday and Titans-Seahawks closing out the slate Sunday on Fox. All other Week 2 preseason games will be broadcast in the participating teams' local markets, and NFL Network will simulcast several games to a national audience. Select additional games will stream nationally on ESPN Unlimited via the ESPN app.
