NFL expert makes shocking prediction for Giants rookie Jaxson Dart

The New York Giants believe they've found the future of the quarterback position, but it's likely to take some time.

After trading back into the first round in order to select Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart with the No. 25 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, it's clear New York has some sense of direction at the game's most important position.

With Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston also on the depth chart ahead of Dart, it's expected that the latter's rookie campaign will be used as a redshirt season.

However, ESPN's Mike Clay made a bold prediction regarding the number of starts Dart will make, coming in at a whopping nine starts in 2025.

Dart will begin his career behind Russell Wilson and perhaps also Jameis Winston, but history suggests the No. 25 pick will make a Year 1 impact. From 2011 to 2024, 38 of 47 first-round QBs (81%) took over as the starter prior to Week 10. Twenty-three (49%) started in Week 1, including Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels and Bo Nix last season. Of the seven QBs picked in the 20-32 range, six played as rookies and four took over before Week 5. Jordan Love was the only exception since he backed up Aaron Rodgers for three seasons.

One of the biggest knocks on Dart as a prospect coming into the NFL was the notion that he will need to sit before he's ready to take on a starting role.

If the Giants are forced to start the rookie just nine games into his career, it likely means the Wilson and Winston experience didn't work and that Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll are hoping Dart can save their jobs.

Clay also predicted that Dart will throw for 1,968 yards and 10 touchdowns across his nine starts.
