NFL analyst proposes rare Detroit Lions-Chicago Bears trade involving quarterback

It's hard to ever imagine the Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions pulling off a trade, but that's exactly what one analyst has his eye on.

Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox listed off quarterbacks who teams should be targeting in trades right now, and Lions backup Hendon Hooker made the list.

And, one of the "top potential suitors" for Hooker should be the Bears, according to Knox. Here's why:

"The Bears, who employ former Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson as head coach, could view Hooker as a multi-year backup to Caleb Williams," Knox stated.
"With a high athletic ceiling, Hooker might mirror Williams' play style than Tyson Bagent or Case Keenum in Johnson's system."

Hooker is currently battling it out for the QB2 role in Detroit with Kyle Allen after he secured that role last year before losing it to Teddy Bridgewater right before the playoffs.

That wasn't exactly a vote of confidence for the former third-round pick, which led to questions about his future with the team. However, Hooker has managed to shine so far this offseason, so maybe he's turning the corner.

The Bears sport Tyson Bagent and Case Keenum as their backups to Caleb Williams.

The only thing Hooker really has over both is his athleticism. He definitely lacks the experience Bagent and Keenum bring to the table, as Hooker has yet to prove anything with just nine career passes in three games.

Bagent has nine career games under his belt and has flashed in those appearances. Meanwhile, Keenum is an 11-year veteran who has proven he can keep a team dealing with an injury to its starter afloat.

If the Bears are looking for security at backup quarterback, Bagent and Keenum offer much better options. If Chicago is looking for upside, Hooker makes sense.

Chances are the Lions want to hold on to Hooker to evaluate him further, anyway, but even if they were to trade the Tennessee product, they are highly unlikely to have any interest in shipping him off to another NFC North team.
