Newlyweds spend their honeymoon falling even more in love when a local feral cat steals both of their hearts

In April 2026 my husband and I took a honeymoon to Aruba. The first night at the airbnb there was a little cat waiting on the patio. We made some dinner and ate outside. She pawed at my leg a

little and I tossed her some sausage. My heart both broke and melted to see how desperately she ate it. I brought out a bowl of fresh water and

made her her own plate and she both ate and drank desperately. Then a few more cats came out of the woodwork but wouldn't get near us.

  • 05

Days passed and we found this little cat hanging out with us everytime we were outside. I secretly named her Luna after

Luna de Miel, honeymoon in Spanish. The airbnb hosts kindly asked we stop feeding them. We did... for a day. When I saw the cats drinking pool water I put out

more fresh water. Then at breakfast time this little lady tracked me down to the very high kitchen window to ask for some

breakfast. I suspected she was pregnant based and a little paunch she had on an otherwise scrawny frame.

  • 12

My husband grew up in a place with many street animals and this little cat broke his heart too. We asked the hosts if anyone owned the cat and they said no. I

Russell, but we knew we'd ask ourselves the rest of our lives what ever happened to that little lady in Aruba...

with complications" whether we decided to her home or not. There is huge overpopulation of cats on the island. We agreed and also asked her if she thought

friends). The vet said "are you kidding? I drove past two dead cats on the way here. For her to have a loving home to go to would be the best thing for her"

  • 25

Our fate was sealed. My husband gave me the sweetest hug I've ever gotten from him after saying, "I guess we're doing this". Luna stayed boarded at the vet

for 3 nights until the day of our flight which gave us time to track down all the supplies we needed to bring her to the US. A process that was surprisingly easy.

One sad surprise was that afternoon when we got back to the airbnb, the big male cat that we only saw at night was sitting on the entry way pillar yowling

  • 30

and yowling. I believe he was calling for her... New cats we had never seen came out that night too. We definitely sent a little ripple through the colony that also made us doubt our actions.

We kept leaving out food and water for them and left a note in the guest book suggesting that future guests do the same.

come to visit her. My husband never thought he could love a cat but is completely smitten with her. She has to be in the same room I'm in, she cuddles, gives

  • 36

headbutts to greet us when we come home, and sleeps with us every night. She adores all of her toys. She's excited to learn new tricks and has taken to her

  • 37

backpack like a fish to water. She always wants to go outside but never doordashes. We built a cat tree for her the day after we landed back at home.

  • 38

Another endearing yet concerning trait of hers is that when our dog growls at us or tries to bite us (I mentioned he was a bit of a cranky guy) she

  • 39

comes running from wherever she is and unleashes her fury on him in our defense. It makes a bad situation worse but I can't help see it as a sign of her wanting to keep us around.

  • 40

We carefully separate them after those events and calm the house down. They both have places they can be that the other can't get too. By and large they just ignore each other.

  • 41

It's been a beautiful adventure. It was perhaps a little bit of a risk bringing home a feral cat from another country, but it turned out better than any of us could have imagined.

scooter_orourke The cat distribution system delivered a wedding gift

  • Talk about a pretty special wedding gift from the Cat Distribution System! These two went to Aruba expecting a honeymoon and somehow came home with a brand-new furry family member. We’re pretty sure Luna wasn’t on the registry, but she turned out to be a much better gift anyway. Of all the places and all the patios she could have wandered onto, she picked theirs. The CDS really knows how to make a newlywed couple’s first adventure together one they’ll never forget.

Estellalatte She's home and will love you forever because you saved her.

  • Rescuing a cat is a pretty good way to win their love forever. Luna clearly remembers exactly who gave her food, fresh water, and eventually a safe home when she needed it most. Now she follows her hoomans around, greets them when they come home, and makes sure they get plenty of cuddles. After everything they did for her, it seems like Luna decided she’s going to spend the rest of her life returning the favor with as much love as possible.

No-Stranger-5771 You had a baby on your honeymoon, how adorable

  • Forget magnets, T-shirts, and all the usual vacation souvenirs. Luna was definitely the best thing these two could have brought home from Aruba. Their honeymoon may have only lasted a little while, but their unexpected souvenir came with a lifetime of cuddles, headbutts, and furry companionship. We’d say they did pretty well in the souvenir department. Good luck topping that on their next vacation!
