The New York Knicks made a big offseason signing when they brought in forward/center Guerschon Yabusele in free agency.
In need of bench depth, Yabusele should fit right in thanks to his versatile play style.
After a career-year with the Philadelphia 76ers, Yabusele now joins a Knicks team that is contending for a championship after reaching the Eastern Conference Finals last season.
With his career trending upwards, many believe that Yabusele will continue this trajectory, including Bleacher Report’s Dan Favale, who thinks that Yabusele will continue this path with the Knicks.
“Guerschon Yabusele is riding a career high after a five-year hiatus from the NBA followed by an "I'm back" return last season with the Philadelphia 76ers,” Favale wrote. “It would still be a stretch to declare him on the radar when he wound up signing a two-year deal worth (slightly) less than the mid-level exception.”
Yabusele was initially drafted in 2016 by the Boston Celtics. After spending two seasons in Boston where he saw limited playing time, he departed overseas, where he spent the next several years before landing with the 76ers last season. He averaged 11.0 points and 5.6 rebounds per game in 70 games (43 starts) last season.
For a bench unit that struggled mightily all of last season, bringing in Yabusele helps the Knicks’ second unit tremendously. After a career renaissance last season, even if he is half as good as he was with the 76ers, the Knicks will still benefit from his services as they compete for an NBA championship.
