Newcastle United weigh move for out-of-favor Serie A defensive star

Newcastle United are once again in the market for a central defender, and this time, their radar has turned toward Juventus' Tiago Djalo.

The 25-year-old Portuguese defender, who just returned from a season-long loan at Porto, is being considered as a low-cost option to address Newcastle’s growing defensive concerns, according to TuttoJuve.com.

Djalo is currently out of Juventus’ first-team plans and hasn’t made a single appearance for the club since joining in January 2023.

Despite a strong start at Porto, where he scored on both his domestic cup and Europa League debuts, he only featured in 17 games last season across all competitions.

Juventus, who need to raise funds to back Igor Tudor’s summer rebuild, are open to selling.

Newcastle’s interest is not new, and the club reportedly showed intent back in the autumn of 2023.

Aging defense and missed targets put Djalo back on Newcastle’s radar

The Magpies are dealing with a defensive dilemma with Fabian Schar, Dan Burn, and Jamaal Lascelles all in their thirties.

Sven Botman is the only center-back under 30 with a long-term contract, and the Magpies have already missed out on Dean Huijsen and face uncertainty over Marc Guehi.
