Newcastle United's star attracts continued Bundesliga interest

Newcastle United came close to parting ways with young striker William Osula on deadline day after interest from Aston Villa and Eintracht Frankfurt reached an advanced stage.

Eintracht Frankfurt lined up a £30m [$40m] deal for the Danish forward and had everything prepared before the move collapsed late in the day as Villa also tried to secure his services.

Ajax were also reportedly offered Osula in the final hours of the window but the Dutch giants chose not to pursue a deal which left the striker still in Eddie Howe’s squad.

Osula only turned 21 this summer and his reputation has grown quickly since leaving Sheffield United where he had made senior appearances as a teenager.

Alexander Isak’s departure to Liverpool placed more focus on Osula who suddenly had a pathway to first team minutes in Howe’s system.

Osula has made nine appearances across all competitions in the 2025/26 season, scoring three goals and providing one assist in 267 minutes of action.

His tally includes one Premier League goal in seven matches, two EFL Cup strikes in just nine minutes, and an assist in the UEFA Champions League.

Nick Woltemade arrived from Stuttgart and Yoane Wissa signed from Brentford yet Osula has still been trusted in competitive fixtures.

Eintracht Frankfurt are still interested

According to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Eintracht Frankfurt have not walked away and remain in touch with Osula’s representatives.

The Bundesliga side are hoping  to secure a loan arrangement during the January transfer window.

His situation is likely to dominate headlines again in January as Frankfurt monitor developments and Newcastle weigh up long term plans for their Danish forward.
