Newcastle United are preparing a bold €70m [$82m] bid to sign Dutch sensation Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig, as reported by Fichajes

The 22-year-old attacking midfielder, who once wore Paris Saint-Germain’s colors, has become one of Europe’s most watched young talents after a brilliant 2024–25 season in the Bundesliga.

Simons made his move to Leipzig permanent in January 2025. According to ESPN, the deal was worth around €50m [$82m] initially, with performance-related add-ons potentially bringing the fee up to €80m [$93m]

He signed a contract until June 2027 with PSG inserting a sell-on clause, giving them a financial stake in any future transfer.

Since coming to Bundesliga this season, the Netherlands star has registered 11 goals and eight assists in 33 games last season across all competitions.

His output, vision and versatility have reportedly attracted numerous teams, including Tottenham Hotspur, however, Newcastle looks to be making their move quicker.

They want Simons to be a key player in their project moving forward, as they look to improve their attack ahead of the new Premier League and Champions League seasons.

How can Xavi Simons fit into Newcastle United?

Xavi Simons would offer Newcastle rare versatility and flair in attack, although he thrives as a No. 10, he is just as effective playing on either wing and will give Eddie Howe tactical flexibility.

His sharp dribbling and explosive long-range shots will make him a constant threat near the box throughout the season.

They could also take advantage of the creativity that Simons brings and his European pedigree from PSG and then Leipzig, but adapting to the physicality and tempo of the Premier League is going to be a major challenge for him.
