Newcastle and Man Utd wait on Sesko decision after final proposals made

8 hours ago 1

Newcastle United and Manchester United are both awaiting a final decision from Benjamin Sesko after presenting their respective offers to the RB Leipzig striker, Sporting News understands.

The 22-year-old Slovenia international has been the subject of strong interest from both Premier League clubs, with each side outlining their long-term vision and financial packages in recent days.

Eddie Howe's side are understood to have put forward a compelling proposal, focusing on regular game time and the chance to lead the line at St James' Park.

Sources close to the situation say the Magpies are confident their project will appeal to the player although, as of now, no decision has been formally communicated.

Reports in Slovenia this week claimed that Sesko had already chosen Newcastle, but those suggestions have been downplayed by figures close to the player.

There is still an expectation that a decision will be made in the coming days, as Manchester United remain firmly in the mix and were considered favourites earlier this week.

The club have been working behind the scenes for several months to lay the groundwork for a deal, with Ruben Amorim a long-term admirer of the player.

Sesko is Europe's top scorer currently aged under 23 of players in Europe's top five leagues since August 2023.

While Leipzig remain keen to keep hold of the striker, it's understood they would be willing to sell for the right price, particularly if Sesko expresses a formal desire to leave.

Both Premier League clubs remain hopeful of securing his signature, but with no final decision yet made, the race remains finely balanced heading into the final weeks of pre-season.
