New York Times crossword clue makes baseball fans very mad

4 hours ago 2

The New York Times often uses various sports words as part of its crossword puzzles.

A lot of the clues, at this point, are well known by those who fill in the blanks each and every day.

There's a new one, though, that has made a lot of baseball fans angry.

This was shared by Jon Becker of Fangraphs, and the clue was this: Swung at and missed.

Your brain went one place, right?

Whiff.

Except that's not the answer.

The letters that fit in those five places: UNHIT.

Seriously.

I have encountered the single worst baseball crossword clue, because the answer to this is UNHIT pic.twitter.com/2iVoShkZer

And if you're now thinking to yourself, "I've never heard anyone use that word" -- you're not alone. No one has.

It isn't in baseball parlance for the older generation, or the newer generation, or any generation.

Apparently, the New York Times decided it was a word, which is pretty obnoxious for anyone trying to get that puzzle, especially when you first try to plug "whiff" into those openings.

Definitely a weird one. It's probably not a word that's going to catch on, either.
