New York Mets make new Bo Bichette position plan amid injuries

The New York Mets continue to explore ways to maximize their roster flexibility, and with some of the injuries they're dealing with ahead of Opening Day, and moving Bo Bichette around will be necessary.

While Bichette isn’t expected to take on a full-time role at shortstop, the Mets are making sure he’s prepared if the situation comes up.

According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, Bichette is set to get work at shortstop in an upcoming game, but it isn't a permanent shift, as it's a precautionary measure.

“Bo Bichette is scheduled to play shortstop on Friday against the Cardinals to just keep him familiar with the position in case he is needed in an emergency,” Sherman reported. “Bichette told The Post that he and (Mets manager) Carlos Mendoza spoke about this a few days ago and that he is ‘excited’ to do it as a way to potentially help the team.”

For Bichette, it’s also an opportunity to show that he can still handle himself up the middle. With an opt-out after the season, some have viewed his deal with the Mets as a one-year contract.

However, his defensive problems have certainly come up, as we've seen them at third base early on. He'll need to be serviceable at shortstop to maximize his value long term.
