The success or failure of first-round quarterbacks usually comes down to something much bigger than the QB's individual skill set. More often than not, talented first-rounders who fail do so because of the structure -- or lack thereof -- of the organization that selects them.
For the New York Giants and 2025 first-round pick Jaxson Dart, that shouldn't be a problem. At least, not according to Pro Football Focus.
PFF ranked all 13 quarterbacks who were selected in the 2025 NFL Draft by the situation they landed in as pros, and it was Dart who topped the list at No. 1.
"Considering the adjustment he’ll have to make transitioning from the offense he ran at Ole Miss to a pro-style system, Jaxson Dart landed in a pretty good spot in New York," Dalton Wasserman wrote. "Giants head coach Brian Daboll did a spectacular job developing Josh Allen over multiple seasons, and the Giants signed two veteran quarterbacks — Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston — to ease the pressure on Dart to start right away.
"Dart may have led the FBS in passing grade in 2024, but he won’t have to rush into game action before he’s ready."
Dart will certainly benefit from learning under the tutelage of Daboll, who's been credited as the driving force behind Josh Allen's development during his time with the Buffalo Bills. And, as PFF noted, Dart is fortunate in that he won't be rushed into the lineup before he's ready.
However, there is one variable that could change all of that. If Wilson (or Winston) falls flat early in the season, Giants fans will grow restless. And for a coach and GM pairing whose leash is as short as any duo in the league, they might have no choice but to turn the reigns over to Dart in an act of self-preservation.
Regardless, Dart has as good of a chance to thrive early in his career as any of this year's top quarterback prospects. He has a strong supporting cast of skill players and, at worst, a competent offensive line. Combined with his dual-threat skill set, Dart's ceiling is extremely high, even if his number is called in 2025.
